“But it was women like Rudabeh who planted in my mind the idea of a different kind of woman whose courage is private and personal. Without making any grand claims, without aiming to save humanity or defeat the forces of Satan, these women were engaged in a quiet rebellion, courageous not because it would get them accolades, but because they could not be otherwise. If they were limited and vulnerable, it was an audacious vulnerability, transcending the misogyny of their creator and his times.”

“The Christian is free from all other human beings. He does not have to live over against others, controlled by their actions and responses. Rather, he lives according to Christ’s commands. This is Christian freedom. It is a freedom unknown by others. It is not just when others do the things that we like that we act properly toward them; we are free to do good even when they don’t because our actions are not dependent on their responses. It is the Lord Christ when we serve!”

“The prodigal son represents all of us. We go off to live our lives the way that our sinful hearts desire, but when we “come to our senses” by the illuminating work of God’s Holy Spirit, we can return to God. God and his “servants” (i.e. the angels) will rejoice when you repent. He’s happy to wrap His arms around you! He is overjoyed! He rejoices, and the angels rejoice with Him!”
